While this seems like an obvious choice, the beaches in Jacksonville are simply stunning and worth a spot on our list. Take advantage of having miles of coastline accessible right in your backyard for a timeless and classic look that your family will cherish. Talk with your photographer about the best time of day for your pictures to avoid that harsh Florida sunshine. Early morning or just before sunset often lend to the best lighting.
Your photographer will need a special photo permit from the Cummer to take family portraits in the gardens (it's $150), but it’s well worth the added trouble and cost. In the spring the gardens bloom with beautiful flowers that create a stunning backdrop for portraits. Nestled on the St. Johns River, you can’t go wrong with family pictures at the Cummer Gardens.
Did you know that Jacksonville is a city packed with amazing street art? It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for something cheerful, colorful, or even a little sassy, there’s sure to be a mural for you. Murals are our favorite backdrops for photographing teens and it’s fun to let them pick their favorite. It’s a great way to turn an uncooperative kid into a fan of that family photo session.
Treaty Oak is located in Jessie Ball DuPont Park, in downtown Jacksonville. This 200 year old oak tree offers a magnificent backdrop to family pictures. With a variety of angles and a wooden walk way surrounding the tree, there are lots of great options for family photographs at this spot.
The Beaches Museum offers a mix of cobblestone walkways, historical buildings, blooming gardens, and stunning afternoon light. It’s the perfect place to let little kids wander around and explore while your photographer catches those favorite candid shots. With lots of interesting spots throughout the grounds, it’s safe to say that no two photoshoots will look the same.
Cradle Creek Preserve in Jax Beach is a hidden gem that locals are very familiar with. With long shaded boardwalks it’s a great spot to capture some family pictures. Cradle Creek is typically not crowded, so you won’t have to worry about avoiding other visitors while you’re there. The natural landscape and lush green surroundings offer a picturesque background for photos.
Probably our favorite spot for family pictures, Boneyard Beach is tucked away on Big Talbot Island. There is a 10-15 minute walk from the parking area and there are no bathrooms onsite, so this location isn’t for everyone. But if you’re willing to partake in a little adventure, this location offers dreamy driftwood the kids will love to climb on and a photoshoot location unlike any other in Jacksonville.
