Why Downtown St. Augustine is one of My Favorite Spots for Family Photos 📸✨

If we haven’t met yet—hi, I’m a local St Augustine photographer who’s just a little obsessed with capturing love, connection, and a whole lot of laughter through my lens. One question I get asked all the time is: “Where should we do our family photos?” And if you don't want the beach my answer is almost always… downtown St. Augustine.

Now hear me out. I know the beach is a Florida classic (and don’t get me wrong, I love golden hour by the water as much as anyone), but there’s just something magical about the charm and character downtown has to offer.

First of all, the vibe is unreal. The cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and tucked-away courtyards? It’s like stepping into a storybook. Every corner has a little bit of history and personality, and that means your gallery won’t just feel like pretty pictures—it’ll feel like art. Your kids chasing each other past an old stone wall, a sweet snuggle on Aviles Street… it all just feels like real-life memories. 💛

And the variety! Oh my goodness. In just one short session, we can go from colorful doorways and ivy-covered brick to wide-open plazas and waterfront views. You want a classic, timeless backdrop? We’ve got it. You want a quirky, artsy look with pops of color? Done. And all of it within walking distance, which—if you’ve got little ones in tow—you know is everything.

Another reason I’m team downtown? The whole vibe. A family photoshoot with me in downtown St Augustine is a little photos, a little walking tour with all the little facts I have learned about this beautiful city… it makes sessions feel less like a chore and more like a fun little adventure for the whole fam. 🐎🎶
