Common Myths About Maternity Photography (And What’s Actually True) From a Jacksonville, FL Maternity Photographer Who’s Seen It All

Let’s be real—growing a human is a lot. Between appointments, planning, and all the emotions (thanks, hormones!), maternity photos can feel like just another thing on your to-do list. And for many mamas, there’s this little voice that whispers doubts like, “I’m not photogenic,” or “It’s too late to book now.” I hear these concerns all the time—and I’m here to gently say: most of them are just myths. So let’s clear the air, mama-to-mama (and photographer to mama) 💛

First off: You are photogenic.
This one is big. So many women shy away from maternity photography because they’re feeling bloated, tired, or just not themselves. I get it—your body is changing daily, and you might not feel like the glowing goddess everyone talks about. But here’s what I’ve learned after photographing so many incredible mamas here in Jacksonville & St Augustine: when you're in the right light, wearing something that makes you feel beautiful, and just being yourself—that’s where the magic happens ✨ You don’t have to know how to pose. You don’t have to be a model. You just have to show up. I’ll guide you every step of the way (promise!).

Another big one: “I waited too long to book.”
Girl, it’s never too late to document this season. While the sweet spot for maternity photos is typically between 28–34 weeks, I’ve photographed glowing mamas right up to their due date! As long as you're feeling up to it, we can make it work. Whether we’re capturing that adorable bump in a breezy sunrise beach session or in the golden light at one of Jacksonville’s gorgeous parks, there's always time to create something meaningful 💫

And let’s talk about the fear that "maternity photos are too posed or cheesy."
I totally get that concern. That’s why my approach is relaxed, natural, and storytelling-focused. I want your gallery to reflect you. If that means walking barefoot on the sand, cuddling with your partner under the mossy oaks, or laughing through the wind at Big Talbot—then that’s what we’ll do. The best photos are the ones where you're just being you.

Lastly: “I’m just not sure I’ll feel comfortable in front of the camera.”
This is totally normal. But here’s the thing—so many of my clients start out nervous and end up saying how fun and empowering the experience was. I’ll create a space where you can relax, laugh, and maybe even fall a little more in love with this incredible season you’re in.

So, if any of these myths have been swirling around in your head, consider them gently busted. You are enough, exactly as you are, and this season is so worth documenting.
If you're ready to celebrate this chapter with photos that feel like you—I’d be honored to tell your story. Let’s chat and create something beautiful together here in Jacksonville 🌿📸
